The school re-opened this morning, Thursday, January, 8, 1914.
Attendance very bad, only 75 present.
No Teacher has been appointed to take Miss Thompson’s place. So far no one has applied for the post.

There seems to be no prospect of a Teacher, as yet, for Class III.
The Religious Examination of this school will take place on Monday, February, 16, 1914.

Feb. 18th
There is no prospect of an assistant before April 1st, for Class III.

Feb 24th
Holiday this afternoon, February 24th, this being Shrove Tuesday.

Attendance much improved.

The Manager appointed a Teacher to come immediately, on March 5th as she was at liberty on March 1st, but she has not come yet.

March 20th
The Education Committee have changed the time for closing the Registers in the Infant Schools, from 9.45 to 10 a.m. The change has been made on the Time Table, this morning,
Several Teachers have been appointed by the Managers, but they won’t accept the appointment on account of the low salary offered by the Education Committee.1

The children for Standard I were sent to the Mixed Department, this morning.

A Teacher has accepted the appointment, but cannot begin duties until May 1st /14

The school re-opened this morning with a good attendance.

May 1st
Miss E. Kenny commenced duties this morning, May 1st, 1914.
It is four months since the last assistant left.

May 8th
The attendance has been very good this week. There is only one child absent on account of sickness.

May 20th
Holiday is given on Thursday, May 21st. Feast of the Ascension.

May 27th
The holidays for Whitsuntide commence on Friday, May 29, at 12.0. School re-opens on Monday, June 8th.

Attendance very bad on account of the heavy rain.

June 16th
Miss Phillips was taken ill in school this morning, & returned home about ten o’clock. June 16th, 1914

Returned to her duties on Tuesday afternoon, June 17th.

1. Two years later ‘The Batley Teachers’ Salary Scandal’ featured in the Batley News of 11 November 1916. Out of 289 educational authorities in the country only 34 paid their teachers less money than Batley, and there were only two lower wage areas in Yorkshire. The National Union of Teachers warned fully qualified teachers not to apply for positions in Batley schools.
