1918, 26 January – Batley News

Here is this week’s round-up of pieces from the Batley News relating to the parish of St Mary’s. As usual I have put in bold the names of those connected to the parish who served with the military. And, as ever, the spelling and punctuation matches that of the newspaper.

There was one parish death in the Family Notices:

BATLEY

HUDSON.—On the 22nd inst., aged one year, Sheila Hudson, 8, Yard 2, Oxford Street.

The business of the Batley Education Committee meeting on Monday included the St Mary’s Girls School teacher resignation of Miss T. Coleman, and Miss O. Carroll of the Infants. I suspect this should read Miss O’Carroll.

The final piece was further confirmation of the death of Patrick Lyons.

SOOTHILL HURRIER’S DEATH

Private Patrick Lyons (27), K.O.Y.L.I., whose death we recorded last week, was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Lyons, 16, New Street, Batley. He was a hurrier at Soothill Wood Colliery, and connected with St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Batley.
