The Bulletin of Batley St Mary of the Angels and Birstall St Patrick – Parish History Section

Starting from 10 March 2024 parish priest, Fr Eamonn Hegarty, has asked me to provide a snippet of parish history information for the weekly bulletin. In this section of my St Mary’s One-Place Study I will collate the snippets month by month. Apart from anything else it will serve as a reminder of what I’ve included in the bulletin, so I do not duplicate!

The bulletin covers two parishes – Batley St Mary of the Angels, and Birstall St Patrick, so the snippets will relate to one or other of the parishes, meaning some will not technically be relevant to the Batley St Mary of the Angels One-Place Study. However, it is worth remembering that Birstall St Patrick was not established as a parish separate from St Mary’s until 1905.

The pieces are not intended to be in depth. They are snapshot pieces of history. However, some may be covered in detailed stand-alone pieces elsewhere in my St Mary’s One-Place Study. If so I will try to remember to signpost them.

And if you want to read the weekly bulletin, this can be found here.
