1918, 2 March – Batley News

There was one piece in this week’s Batley News relating to the parish of St Mary’s. The spelling and punctuation matches that of the newspaper.

Over 40 cases were reviewed at a sitting of the Batley Tribunal on Monday afternoon. They included:

James Lynch (37,) m., Grade 3, 3 Upper Road, weft storeman for G and J. Stubley, Ltd. —T. E., June 1st

M indicated he was married. Grade 3 indicated he was fit for auxiliary, labour and sedentary services, and T. E. meant a temporary exemption, on the expiration of which he – or his employer – could make an application for its renewal.
