This is the round-up of news about St Mary’s parishioners from the 16 November 1918 edition of the Batley News. As usual I have put in bold the names of those connected to the parish who served with the military. And, as ever, the spelling and punctuation matches that of the newspaper.
There was one death in the Family Notices column, though this was under the incorrect name. The announcement read Bridget, but it should have been Margaret. The notice was published again in the 23 November edition, under the correct name.
Maguire, – Nov. 14, aged 26, Bridget Maguire, 81 Cobden Street.
The death of William Frederick Townsend was reported this week. His biography is here. He is not to be confused with the William Townsend on the St Mary’s War Memorial, who to confuse things even more was actually William McManus. For more of that complication read here
