Here is this week’s round-up of pieces from the Batley News relating to the parish of St Mary’s. As ever, the spelling and punctuation matches that of the newspaper.
In school news, a series of staff changes were approved across Batley by the Caretakers’ and Continuation and Technical Schools Sub-Committee as a temporary measure. They included Miss Lucy Deasey to replace Mrs. Maloney at St. Mary’s R.C. School.
The Secretary of the School Management and Finance Committee reported the resignation of Mrs. Bleeze, St. Mary’s Girls’ School.
The holidays for 1917 were discussed. In addition to the normal holidays, this included Special Holidays. For St. Mary’s these were May 17th (Ascension); June 29th (Sts. Peter and Paul); August 15th (Assumption); November 1st (All Saints).
There was one relevant death notice:
GAUNT. —On 20th inst., aged 58 years, James Garforth Gaunt, 17, Jacob Street.
